I do not expect my self hosted instance to require an smtp configuration.
Currently even if SMTP configuration is disabled, the password reset still expects it, making it so there is currently no way I can reset a user's password or send them a url so they can reset it themselves.
I found out that the fluxer-api logs (docker compose logs -f api) will record the email it tries to send if it cant find the SMTP server, so you can dig the link out of there if you need to.
@JonaldJohnston Thank you, that will work in an emergency.
@MichaelBelgium I am not running a massive community where they should take care of their own password resets. I'm not gonna run an SMTP. Every member is admin invited and most of the members don't even use real emails because we don't need this functionality.
It can be communicated to the admin the same way as Admin-Issued Registration URLs are. Or just let the Admin change the password to a temporary password until the next login.
In what way would fluxer communicate otherwise to users? There's no other option
@MichaelBelgium
setting up an SMTP server that can actually reach an inbox is an absolute pain in the ass, and for closed small communities I don't think email verification is really needed, It'd be nice to be able to just shut it off.

Check out https://purelymail.com/. It does all the work for you and is extremely cheap. Saw it recommended in the Fluxer server as well.

This is a big problem, as I cannot make Fluxer work with my SMTP server, despite Nextcloud working with it no problem. One user of my server forgot his password and he cannot change it, because I can't make email work, so he never receives the link, and I cannot reset/set the password myself from the admin panel, so the user cannot use the server anymore and I cannot do anything about it.
There should be a way to manually change users' passwords from the admin panel. Fluxer should be fully functional without an email server.

Not only that, but most commercial email service providers are aggressively marking self-hosted email servers as spam, so this creates another layer of potential problems, as most people are using one of them, most likely, and may not receive the link even if the self-hosted SMTP server is up and running. And using commercial third-party services to mitigate this is not a solution, we should not rely on them. We just need to be able to set a different password for a user as an administrator of the server.
