Merged from #285 "Show this role separately" breaks Member bar on the server

RexSystemoriginally by @rikkichy on GitHub

Report details

Summary

When user has no roles and in Roles and Permissions at least 2 roles have "Show this role separately" toggle enabled, Member bar breaks. This issue is completely different from issue #121 , because it is permanent and can't be fixed by just reloading the page or CTRL+R.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Make more than 1 role
  2. Enable toggle on both (or more) roles, called "Show this role separately"
  3. See how member bar stopped working correctly
Important
If user has one of these roles, member bar works, but other members just vanish for unknown reason.

Environment (optional)

macOS Tahoe 26.3, Desktop App

Status changed from Fixed to Confirmed
Reopened because another user confirmed it on Windows and it was bulk closed without a fix.

I also have issues with the memberlist on the right side. Difference is for me that people do occasionally show up, but wrong. Sometimes they disappear, sometimes they appear correctly, sometimes they appear offline but with a green light as they are in fact online.

I noticed that after I posted this I also have the same issues you got, but some roles I can give to myself and it will show me in that specific role but it just shows the members as offline 2 but I can only see one offline but there is two

Also seeing this in the members list in servers made a new account today and tried on both Windows and Linux and the Web App shows it like this. image

well I am also seeing the funny no members thing on the side too in tangent. It seems like a combined issue tbh. image

Sometimes it also displays people under a wrong role if the role has "display separately from others" enabled, or however that's called. For example: image

The Members tab seems to only list the most recent members. I don't know if this is a bug or not but I would expect to get a list of all members on the server. Since the members list in the right panel doesn't seem to be working as intended, and seem to only randomly list some members every now and then, there is no real or practical way to know exactly which members currently occupy the server.

I suspect the members list can render nothing if a group exists but no member rows are assigned to it, because empty groups are skipped entirely in the render path. https://github.com/fluxerapp/fluxer/blob/848269a4d4df7349acfc861ff926b17fe4c4a548/fluxer_app/src/components/channel/ChannelMembers.tsx#L303 So if you end up in a state where the gateway sends/keeps groups (including hoisted-role groups) but the items map doesn’t contain corresponding member rows (or isn’t loaded yet / is partially loaded / is filtered out), the UI drops every group - meaning the whole panel looks empty. Idk, might be better to render the group header even when members aren’t loaded yet (or show skeleton rows), or treat group.count as authoritative while loading. PS. I also had the same issue

I can confirm that this bug is also affecting the macOS client. image
