[Self-Hosted] Youtube Videos not embedding

(#671) Bug Needs triage embeds self-hosting

Summary

I don't know if this feature is implemented or not, but i guess it should considering the youtube api key. I put my Youtube Data Api v3 in the configuration, the preview and the title are resolved, but i can't click play on fluxer on the video.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open a chat
  2. paste a youtube link
  3. See the link, the title and the preview, but not the play button

Environment

Version: Latest Self-Hosted OS: Browser Windows 11 Device: Computer

Let me know if this is still an issue after updating to [`fluxer-unfurl@2026.816.212224`](<https://github.com/fluxerapp/fluxer/releases/tag/fluxer-unfurl%402026.816.212224>).

image In my case, I still experience the same issue even after updating it. Stable Web 2026.816.210712 (latest for self-hosted, not sure how person below me gets Canary to work with their self-hosted instance...)

I checked my youtube api service details and it appears my self-hosted instance is calling youtube.api.v3.V3DataVideoService.List whenever trying to embed a youtube video, but the api returns 403 each time - does this indicate i haven't set something up correctly for fluxers api access?

I figured it out for my account. The daily search quota was set to 0. I had to make a new project to get the default 10,000 quota. I'm not sure how this happened, but my API key for that project was created in 2018 and I don't think I ever used before so maybe Google set the quota to 0 due to inactivity. As soon as I got a project with the normal quota, videos started embedding correctly. I hope this helps you as well!

oh wow, this worked for me! that is so ridiculous from google but i can confirm making a new project rather than using an old one works

Hello, has anyone successfully set up URL restrictions for the YouTube Data API? No matter what URL or wildcard I enter, enabling API protection in YouTube data API causes the YouTube embedding stop working in Fluxer.

My issue was API protection being enabled in YouTube, disabling it made it work. Also curious about what playaz44 asked, setting it to website and putting any value seems to always make it fail no matter what is set there.
