Push to mute doesn't actually mute your mic

Reproduction steps

  1. Join call
  2. Hold the bound push to mute key
  3. User area mute button turns red
  4. No mute icon shows in voice
  5. Other people in call will still hear you

Observed behaviour

The mute button turns red like it's muting you, but the VC list never shows as muted, and other people can still hear you.

Expected behaviour While push to mute is active, you should be muted in the call, the VC list should show you as muted, and other people shouldn't hear you.

After talking with the mods about this one, we decided the UX is bad so this should be considered a bug. When a user selects Direct Input for their voice setting, it either should not ignore PTT/PTM buttons, or there should be some indication that that will occur.

Hi there, just tested this on Canary Desktop 2026.1013.201015, Web 2026.1013.223957, Linux 7.2.10-200.fc44.x86_64 (x64), Electron 44.4.1, Chrome 152.0.7977.78, Node 24.21.0, Locale en-US It seems like things work correctly, though there are still some visual quirks (I'll attach a video in a reply). However the muting functionality does seem to work now. Could you please confirm?

I found in the fluxer repo searching for pushtomute that the studio/direct input mode blocked push to mute, which was my issue, so I switched to the Custom one and all is well.
