Merged from #205 Moving Catagories and Channels

RexSystemoriginally by @GoC45 on GitHub

Report details

Problem

So, I want to try and move the channels and catagories around within a community I've made. However, the drag-and-drop method doesn't seem to work on Fluxer, and I don't know how to do so otherwise, assuming a method exists.

Proposed solution

This is a feature suggestion to allow the community owner or any admin(s) to move the chats and channels around as need-be.

This issue seems to stem from Fluxer mistaking the placement of the dragged object to be placed in the wrong place in respect to a voice channel. It does not matter which object the user is dragging, may it be a text channel, category or anything else. It appears that it will always believe that the user is trying to place a voice channel above an existing channel of another type. If there is a voice channel in the server AT ALL, regardless of where, this error seems to come up when trying to re-position a channel or category. The PATCH request is returning this result:
{
    "code": "INVALID_FORM_BODY",
    "message": "Ogiltig formulärkropp.",
    "errors": [
        {
            "path": "preceding_sibling_id",
            "message": "Röstkanaler kan inte placeras ovanför textkanaler i samma kategori.",
            "code": "VOICE_CHANNELS_CANNOT_BE_ABOVE_TEXT_CHANNELS"
        }
    ]
}
If ALL voice channels are removed from the server the drag&drop re-ordering of channels and categories seems to work flawlessly.

It does work for me despite a voice channel present, but it takes multiple tries and only sometimes doesn't work. Haven't tried without a voice channel as I had all the categories and channels set as I wanted already.

Can confirm that this is a problem, and seems to worse when there are multiple voice channels present.

Drag and drop does work for me.
Odd. Maybe it's because I'm using it in-browser instead of in the application.

I am also using it in browser. Are you sure you have the correct permissions ?

I had issues re organising my community structure, I had to remove all my voice channels, once that was done I could easily drag and drop.

Okay, so after deleting ALL of the the voice call channels, I'm able to drag-and-move the channels and categories around. So... is this a bug now?

That is weird. If you are able to reproduce you may want to fill a "bug" issue rather than an enhancement one ?

On my test server I can move channels around even with voice channels, but I only have three channels so not a lot... EDIT: even with a bit more I can still move things around so maybe this is an issue once a specific number of channels is crossed ?

That might be the case, as on a Community I've created, I had 11 channels, including the VC ones

This should be fixed.
I came here to find if there was already an open issue for this, as I first ran into this problem a few days ago - I was not able to rearrange channels in just one of my community's categories. I was able to in all of the others. Now, I cannot arrange any channel in any category. I even tried removing all voice channels as described in #205 but was still unable to move them.

Addendum: Just to make sure it wasn't a community-specific issue, I made a new community to test the behavior. I immediately added a few text channels and tried to arrange them, and couldn't. I tried deleting the voice channel and then arranging the text channels after that, and still couldn't. Happening on both Firefox and the desktop application!

Hi I can confirm the above! I tested the issue after @nagaconnie mentioned it making my own community and I'm completely unable to arrange any channels. I also refreshed the desktop app and tried again and still had the same issue. stable build 84 (356bd53), 2026-03-06 03:57:38 UTC, Electron 39.2.7, Windows 10 10.0.19045 (x64), desktop stable 0.0.8

Still an issue. I think it was working at some point, since I believe I had to organise my community.

Currently moving channels is returning MISSING_PERMISSIONS despite being the owner 🙃 image

This is now fixed for me but the channels that were in the same category as a voice channel couldn't be moved nor move channels in to that category until I moved the voice channel and now everything works.
