Opt-in search engine indexing for community channels

(#990) Feature Planned community search

Problem

One of the biggest sins of discord is that it's where information goes to die. Reddit, for all its faults, at least made info discoverable with a search engine. There is so much good information in discord that could help people that's just impossible to find if you don't happen to be in the relevant server, and it's not like there's a native option to resolve this for server admins.

Proposed solution

I'd like to propose some kind of opt-in feature that community admins can turn on indexing on a per-channel basis. AnswerOverflow tried to address this for discord, so maybe a similar idea for fluxer?

Status changed from Shipped to Planned
Reopened as planned because the founder's blog commits to opt-in public forum discovery that has not shipped.

What about the open web?

This is something I'd like Fluxer to do something about. Fluxer will eventually have a discovery system of public forum channels, Atom/RSS feeds, and server-side rendered, public, unauthenticated views of forum channels that can be found on search engines and archived, as an entirely opt-in thing to get the best of both worlds.
