When pressing E or R as default keybinds nothing happens, same with rebinding those same keys to other options.

Reproduction steps

  1. look at keybinds
  2. test reply and edit keybinds
  3. nothing happens, so test rebinding
  4. nothing happens, with rebinds

Staff explained the shortcuts need a focused message by design and closed this in favour of a separate suggestion.

Whether that's intentional or not, the shortcuts seem to require the target message to be selected via tabbing. That will show a highlighted border on it and then you may use these shortcuts. I recently opened a discussion to suggest Ctrl+Arrows and Shift+Arrows for replying / editing messages respectively, with the ability to jump up and down the messages with the up and down arrows here.

It would be highly problematic if all you had to do was press the keys E or R without focusing a message and it would start editing or replying a message at random, hence why it currently requires focusing a message just like on Discord (press Tab, then arrow key up and down to traverse the message tree). It wouldn't make sense if the minute you accidentally typed the letter E or R in the text composer, it started editing or replying to a message (it wouldn't know which message, either, disregarding the fact that typing the letters E or R in regular text would be somewhat common, but I don't know why I'm explaining this :P). Closing this in favour of @probablyjassin's discussion linked above: https://feedback.fluxer.com/p/1423.
