Screen sharing shows black screen on both Windows and Linux (Lenovo Z50-70)

(#719) Bug Fixed desktop video

Summary

When someone shares their screen in a call, I only see a black screen. The first frame appears briefly, then it goes completely black. The same issue happens on both Windows 10 and Linux (Ubuntu 24.04). I also can't share my own screen - it shows black on the other end as well. I've tried different GPU settings and hardware acceleration options but nothing changes.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Join a voice/video call with someone
  2. Have the other person start sharing their screen
  3. I see the first frame for a moment, then the screen goes black
  4. Same happens when I try to share my own screen - others see black

Environment

Version: 0.0.8 (stable) OS: Ubuntu 26.04 LTS / Windows 10 (tested on both) Device: Lenovo IdeaPad Z50-70 GPU: Intel HD 4400 + NVIDIA GeForce GT 840M (hybrid)

Logs or screenshots

Terminal output when starting with --disable-gpu: [ERROR:media/gpu/vaapi/vaapi_wrapper.cc:1631] vaInitialize failed: unknown libva error MESA-INTEL: warning: Haswell Vulkan support is incomplete Tried disabling hardware acceleration in settings, tried running with --disable-gpu, --use-gl=swiftshader, and various other flags. None of them fixed the screen sharing issue.

I want to provide an update after more testing. I can actually share my own screen without any problems - the other party sees it just fine. The issue is specifically when receiving someone else's screen share - I only see a black screen. This happens on both Windows 10 and Linux (Ubuntu 26.04), which makes me think it's a client-side decoding issue rather than a platform or driver problem. Here's what I've tried: Installed Fluxer Canary (2026.602.31138) Enabled VA-API with i965 driver for Intel HD 4400 (Haswell) Tried NVIDIA PRIME render offload Tried various Chromium flags (--disable-gpu, --use-gl=swiftshader, etc.) Toggled Hardware Acceleration setting in Fluxer None of these resolved the issue. The black screen appears when someone else starts sharing their screen, while my own screen share works perfectly. Could this be related to how Fluxer handles incoming screen share streams or video decoding on the receive side?

The person on the other side (the encoder), when they turned off hardware acceleration and sent with the VP9 codec, the stream became visible. So it seems there's an encode/decode mismatch.
