Screen share quality is poor with H.265 hardware encoding on Linux

(#432) Bug Fixed performance video

Summary

I notice fluxer says it uses hardware acceleration with HEVC but looking at the screenshare itself on a Linux machine it doesn't look so great, idk if this is because the server is not fully ready for this or the tools used arent good enough for showing gameplay or lots of content. Discord is using this https://github.com/chromeos/cros-codecs to implement hardware encoding with linux right now so that you can use VAAPI on amd and intel and soon NVENC with nvidia gpus.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Screenshare on alt account or friend
  2. Watch said screenshare
  3. Notice screenshare quality and smoothness doesn't look great

Environment (optional)

Flatpak stable build 87 (28da28c), Electron 40.0.0 Linux 6.19.8-1-cachyos (x64) desktop stable 0.0.0

Logs or screenshots (optional)

Example of screenshare not looking good with quality or smoothness, same goes with camera quality not looking great either right now. image

I also keep getting this problem with the other user screenshare being black, sometimes clicking on it will work but it gets to a point where it does nothing image

I did encounter the black screen issue with screensharing, and I managed to fix that by turning off hardware acceleration. That aspect definitely needs some attention 'cause that's a pretty important thing to have.

True disabling h.265 hardware acceleration improves screenshare quality aswell, it isnt perfect/better/on par than discord but its way better than with hardware accel. It seems like fluxer still uses hardware accel aswell with VP9 image
