Why is date of birth (DOB) required and how is that sensitive information stored and protected?

(#416) Bug Awaiting confirmation privacy

What needs fixing?

I cannot find any information/explanation of these questions in the documentation:
  1. Why is a specific date of birth required vs other options (see below under Suggested Wording for examples)
  2. How is this sensitive information stored?
  3. How is this stored information protected (e.g. prevented from being stolen)?
(In case it matters, I am in a country that does not currently have a minimum age requirement and yet I am still being asked for date of birth.)

Where is it? (optional)

Suggested wording (optional)

Instead of requiring a specific date of birth (which can be entered intentionally incorrectly), have a tick box with: "I agree that I am of the required minimum age in my country" or "I agree that in order to use Fluxer I am 13+ years old" or "I confirm that I am 18+ years old in compliance with my country's minimum age laws" etc.

Status changed from Fixed to Awaiting confirmation
This was closed in a bulk cleanup before Fluxer V2 without being checked or fixed. It may work now, so it is waiting for someone to confirm whether the bug still happens.

This is done to meet legal obligations worldwide and in order to automatically grant your account access to age based features. Clearly this isn't a bug and shouldn't be posted here. You need to email Fluxer's support team.

This needs to be clarified on how the data is stored. DoB is PII which cannot be held without clearly defined standards.

This doesn't explain why an exact date of birth is specifically needed vs other options that still meet the legal requirements. Additionally, I am in a country where there is no minimum age currently, and thus no legal obligation, so why am I still being asked for sensitive information? And as I have also said and now @MattTheTekie has said as well, there needs to be clarification on how this data is stored and protected. My country also has privacy laws giving me a legal right to know what is being stored, the ability to change that stored information and to request all the information stored. So Fluxer as it currently stands is not meeting worldwide legal obligations. >Clearly this isn't a bug and shouldn't be posted here This isn't posted as a bug. I reported this as a documentation issue/improvement (which is why this has the "docs" label). image

As a note, there are still lots of countries where it isn't required to input age during registration
