Updating your avatar yields an undefined worker error or crop operation timed out

(#371) Bug Fixed media profiles

Summary

Ever since the API issues from February 26th, 2026, using a .png image for a profile picture for bots and even for your own account stopped working. When I try upload a .png image file and attempted to save it, it just says "Worker error: undefinied". .jpg images work perfectly fine. It is just .png images fluxer does not like.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Head to either your Profile settings or your Applications settings and click on a bot
  2. Click on "Change Avatar" and select a .png image file to be the new profile picture.
  3. Attempt to save it by pressing "Save Avatar" and that is where the issue arrises with the "Worker error: undefinied"

Environment (optional)

  • OS: Windows 10
  • Browser: Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge
  • Used the browser version of fluxer (web.fluxer.app)

Logs or screenshots (optional)

(From inspect element as soon as you try to save)
[13:12:14] [ImageCropModal] [Error] Error cropping image: Error: Worker error: undefined
    at k.handleWorkerError (AnimatedImageCropWor…rManager.tsx:124:23)
    at Worker.<anonymous> (AnimatedImageCropWorkerManager.tsx:83:11)

Observed behaviour

When applying a crop a picture for either a community icon or profile avatar, the error "Crop operation timed out after 30000ms" displays. Images can be uploaded without cropping at all, but cropping fails and times out every time.

Reproduction steps

  1. Go to Community or Profile settings.
  2. Go to "Upload Icon" or "Change Avatar" respectively.
  3. Upload image and adjust crop.
  4. Click "Save".
  5. Wait for the error.

We've also had this issue on our community, The MCLE Code Collective. First we get a worker undefined error, and then when we try again we get the same error as here. Very annoying but eventually we realised we can just click skip cropping and it will just go straight on. Please fix, Fluxer peeps!

i believe this is because of just general server issues, it tries to pull a js script when cropping an image and the site just returns a 404, im going to try to setup a dev env where i run fluxer to test if this is the case though

You can still set a profile picture if you press "Skip Cropping". I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but it's a temporary work around. It also helps reduce the issue to a specific function rather than profile pictures as a whole.
