Client keeps deleted reference message cached causing a reply to fail to send

Observed behaviour

The reply state remains cached in the client after the reference message is deleted and fails to send as the API cannot find the reference message.

Reproduction steps

  1. Send a message
  2. Begin a reply to the message
  3. Delete the reference message
  4. Send the reply

Build information

Canary Web 2026.605.11941, macOS 10.15.7 (arm64), Chrome 133.0.0.0, Locale en-US

Details

Expected behaviour The chat box reply is disregarded when the reference message is deleted and the reply will be sent as plain message. This is Discord’s behaviour.
  1. Rex changed the status from Needs triage to Confirmed
  2. Hampus changed the status from Confirmed to Fix pending
  3. Rex changed the status from Fix pending to Awaiting confirmation

Can reproduce CR: Notably, on the mobile app if the repliedTo message is deleted, the message removes the reply. Canary Desktop 2026.602.31138, Web 2026.605.11941, Linux 7.0.12-101.fc43.x86_64 (x64), Electron 41.2.2, Chrome 146.0.7680.188, Node 24.14.1, Locale en-US
