Problem
Right now on Fluxer, a profile only have avatar, banner, About Me text, and status. There is no small extra "card" where we can show something personal about ourself.
Discord already has something called
Profile Widgets. It lets you add a small card to your profile, but right now it only works for games: Favorite Game, Currently Playing, Want to Play, Games I've Played, and Game Stats. So if a person doesn't play games, or wants to show something else about themselves (art, music, a picture, a link, a "status" like commissions open, or just something cute), this feature can't help them at all.
Because people still want this, some have already found a way around it. But you need to create a fake "developer" application in Discord's settings, connect it, and even paste some code into your own browser to make it show up. There are guides for this already (
https://hub.tcno.co/discord/widgets/ and
https://chloecinders.com/blog/discord-widgets#displaying-the-widget-on-your-profile), but it needs real technical skill to follow.
This would mainly help people who like to personalize their profile and show a bit of their personality, similar to how people still like to customize their Steam profile today. From the
posts and guides I found, quite a few people got genuinely excited seeing how cute and personal other people's widgets looked, so I don't think this is a small niche want, more people would probably use it if it's made easy enough.
Proposal
I would like Fluxer to add a small, customizable "widget" card to profiles, but build it so anyone can use it, no coding or bot setup needed:
- Let users add a few small widgets/cards to their own profile (maybe keep a limit, like 3-4, so profile doesn't get too crowded).
- Each widget can have: one small picture or gif, a short title/text, and (if wanted) one link/button.
- Give a few ready templates so people don't need to build from nothing, for example: "favorite thing", "currently doing", "a button", "fun fact or quote", and maybe a simple "stat/progress" one (like a goal or reading progress).
- Can drag to reorder the widgets (Discord already does this, it's a nice simple idea to just copy).
- A little style option too, like accent color or background, so it can match the rest of the profile - but keep this simple (color picker, a few presets), not full custom code.
Notes
Some things to think about:
- Since a widget card would be visible to anyone who can see the profile, there should be an on/off switch for it, following the same privacy setting as rest of profile.
- Because a widget can hold a picture/gif/link, we need to think about safety too. Someone could put a bad picture or bad link there. Maybe need a report option (like other content already has) and a size limit for images/gifs so profile pages still load fast for everyone.
- This proposal is only about templates + a few style options, not full CSS or custom code. There's already a bigger, longer-term request about deep, code-level profile customization here. This proposal is a smaller, easier step toward a similar goal, but not trying to replace that idea.
