Pictures next to channels, like Root

(#971) Feature Under consideration channels ui

Problem

Right now, users can't add pictures as channel icons like they can in Root, which causes unhappiness

Proposed solution

Add, so that it's one more thing Fluxer beats centralized competition at.

Status changed from Shipped to Under consideration
Reopened because it was marked shipped but staff said channel pictures would not be supported for now.

Agreed, Revolt/Stoat has a similar feature and it's great Screenshot_20260219-093928

it's a really subtle but nice touch.

Is there anything preventing you from using custom server emojis in channel names? I think that could be a way to get this result without a dedicated feature.

kinda agree this is more so a gimmick that really destroys the purpose of the channel icons (#, audio icon and co) for knowing which channel was what type again.

tried copy and pasting one of mine, it doesnt work with custom emojis. Can use conventional emojis copied over from a site directly into the text field, but not custom ones. A dedicated feature would be sweet, but Im sure the developer is very busy with more important things, maybe in the future!

I think the easy solution to that is just not having channel pictures on voice channels. Less of a gimmick, more of a nice to have. I could see this being used effectively in servers with large amounts of channels, making certain important ones stand out (e.g. rules, roles/groups channels, etc.)
