Linux Wayland Audio streaming with screen sharing

(#949) Feature Shipped desktop video

Problem

When sharing screen on Arch linux with KDE plasma desktop environment (Wayland compositor) The option to share audio is greyed out.

Proposed solution

Would love to see a ability to stream audio on Linux with wayland. I know Discord is horrrible with this but somehow Vencord (discord client) does it not sure how.

This appears on Fedora w/ Wayland too. This is is a Linux version limitation. It appears with both PulseAudio and Pipewire it seems. I believe Vencord captures the primary output audio device, you cannot select an application and only share its audio iirc.

Both the Vencord Vesktop AppImage and Flatpak allow you to choose one or multiple audio sources, one of which is the entire system and the rest are the running applications. The granularity is quite impressive I must say.

Technically a dupe of #3 which already exists with regards to screensharing functionality on wayland

This is in regaurd to Audio streaming. The video streMs fine #3 was about it not streaming at all and is a hyperland specific post this one is KDE plasma wayland.

The protocols for screen sharing and the like on wayland are still generally the same per desktop (usually piggybacking pipewire for audio AND video) so this issue still makes sense to fold under #3 as to not create excess clutter as these issues will likely be addressed together

To avoid creating a new discussion topic that is related to this - Fluxer should implement Vencord's Venmic package. This is the technology powering Vesktop's per-application audio source selection on Linux. It's meant for use on any Electron application, and since it is used in the custom Discord client Vesktop, that provides a prime example in how to set it up. https://www.npmjs.com/package/@vencord/venmic https://github.com/Vencord/venmic

Mac support is also needed.
This is irrelevant to this issue.

I assume this issue will be fixed with the SFU overhaul expected to come this month, at least on the desktop app.

As far as I'm aware, the ETA is not even set for "this month". It is a non-descriptive time in the future. I wouldn't hold onto this month too tightly.

The desktop app on Linux can now share audio with your screen on Wayland. It has its own PipeWire audio capture, so the audio option no longer depends on what the browser engine supports. When you share, the stream settings menu has an "Audio sources" picker, Vesktop style. You can share the whole system's audio, pick specific apps to include, or exclude apps from system audio. #2431 reworked that picker into its current form. This applies to the desktop app only. In a browser on Linux, screen share audio still depends on the browser's own support. If you are still having issues with this, however, please open up bug reports!
