Add time zone to profiles

(#907) Feature Under consideration profiles

Problem

Many forum software let users add their time zones to their profile, letting others see it and use that information for understanding when they reasonably might be online and plan something out together. It's not uncommon to see Discord users add timestamps like this to their profile bio to achieve this.
My midnight is your <timestamp>

Proposed solution

A field could be added to profiles that lets you input your time zone. To other users, this will show what your current time is, so if the current time is 9:34 for a given user, everyone will see "9:34" on their profile.

Status changed from Shipped to Under consideration
Reopened because it was marked shipped but staff said it would not be built.

it could be useful if there were various options in the client settings for how you want other's timezone to appear.
  • raw timezone name (CST)
  • UTC-relative (UTC-6)
  • current time for them (00:25)
  • time relative to you (+01:00)
and of course, the option to disable it entirely if you don't care about it!

I do not count how many times i wanted this feature to be real. In my profile on Discord. I had timestamp which showed when i have midnight. But it was just static. Having option to show my real time could be much better. And even could help with messaging in DMs . Hopefully this will be integrated in good way. I would love to see group chat where i can see time of every user. Without opening their profile.
