GIFs won't load if language is set to Spanish (Latin America)

(#691) Bug Fixed i18n media

Summary

When clicking the GIF button while having the language set to Spanish (Latin America), the GIFs from KLIPY won't load. What happens is slightly different in selfhosted vs official instance (see steps and screenshots) but it seems to be the same issue. I have not tested all languages, but Spanish (Spain) works no issue.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Self host a Fluxer instance and setup an API key for KLIPY, or use the official instance
  2. Set your client language to Spanish (Latin America)
  3. Go to a text channel and click the GIF button
  4. GIFs will not load:
    • On a selfhosted instance, "GIFs could not load" (translated) will be shown (second screenshot)
    • On the official instance, "Favorites" and "Trending GIFs" buttons will show up but not GIFs (third screenshot), the trending button actually shows trending GIFs on click

Environment

Selfhosted instance version: Stable Web 2026.630.20736 Official instance version: stable build 508 (3250c73), 2026-06-06 21:26:08 UTC OS: Linux (x64) Browser: Firefox 152.0 Locale: es-419

Logs or screenshots

Selfhosted instance, expected, English (US): image Selfhosted instance, the issue, Spanish (Latin America): image "GIFs could not load" "Check your connection and try again" Official instance, the issue, Spanish (Latin America): image Selfhosted gifs-shard log: {"timestamp":"2026-06-30T22:16:29.501612Z","level":"WARN","fields":{"message":"shard handler returned error","error":"KLIPY request failed with status 422 Unprocessable Entity"},"target":"fluxer_svc::shard"} Selfhosted api log: {"level":"info","time":"2026-06-30T22:50:16.025Z","service":"fluxer-api","env":"production","method":"GET","path":"/v1/gifs/featured","status":503,"durationMs":3488,"msg":"Request completed"} I thought the issue might be around that Fluxer uses es-419 as the language code for Spanish (Latin America), as KLIPY API expects ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes in the locale parameter (https://docs.klipy.com/gifs-api/gifs-trending-api), but then I tested with curl: curl --location --globoff 'https://api.klipy.com/api/v1/{app_key}/gifs/trending?locale=es-419 and it returned trending GIFs

This is now deployed on Fluxer.app's instance as well, and self-hosters can solve it by following the upgrade instructions in the operator guide in the docs. Thanks for reporting this!
