Current problem
Communities can have hundreds of custom emojis and stickers (500 slots each by default on our self-hosted instance), making the collections increasingly difficult to manage.
Currently, emojis and stickers appear in long, ungrouped lists, seemingly ordered by upload date. While there is a search bar, it is primarily useful when you already know what you are looking for.
For example, our Guild Wars 2 community has general-purpose emojis and stickers, Guild Wars 2-related content, memes, and other community-specific content. Everything is mixed together, making it difficult to browse the collection or keep track of existing content.
Stickers already support tags, but there is currently no apparent option to filter the management view using those tags. This limits their usefulness for organizing larger collections.
Proposed change
Allow community admins to organize and filter custom emojis and stickers within the community settings.
Possible implementations could include:
- Custom categories or folders, allowing admins to group emojis and stickers by topic or purpose.
- Tabs or a dropdown menu to quickly switch between categories.
- Filtering by existing sticker tags, ideally with similar functionality available for emojis.
- An "All" view to continue displaying the complete collection.
Platform
macOS, Windows, Linux, Web, Self-hosting
Additional information
A possible example would be a category selector directly below the existing search bar in the emoji and sticker management pages.
For our Guild Wars 2 community, categories could look like this:
- All
- General
- Guild Wars 2
- Memes
- Events
- #4430 – Custom sorting for stickers and emotes in Community settings
- #4489 – Ability to reorder emojis
