Sudo required to delete messages when attempting to leave a community

Can you reproduce this?

This bug has a 10 XP repro bounty. Follow the steps in the report on your own device and tell us what happened.

Reproduction steps

  1. Select leave server
  2. Toggle delete my messages
  3. Enter 2FA (might still be an issue without 2FA)
  4. Be greeted with "Sudo mode is required"

Expected behaviour

Delete messages and leave the server

Actual behaviour

Get denied due of lack of sudo permissions. I'm able to delete all messages without issue when not attempting to leave a community.

Stable Desktop 2026.1105.25408, Web 2026.1105.25408, Linux 7.2.15-200.fc44.x86_64 (x64), Electron 44.10.0, Chrome 152.0.7977.169, Node 24.22.1, Locale en-US

Hi there, I tried this but did not receive any error that said "Sudo mode is required". I performed this test by joining a simple test community I created with my alt on fluxer.com, sent a few messages, then left immediately with the delete my messages toggle enabled. My 2FA code was accepted successfully with no error. Canary Desktop 2026.1105.25346, Web 2026.1105.25346, Linux 7.2.15-200.fc44.x86_64 (x64), Electron 44.10.0, Chrome 152.0.7977.169, Node 24.22.1, Locale en-GB Could you provide some more details? Was this on fluxer.com or a self-hosted instance? Was there anything else you did at all that might be potentially relevant to reproducing this issue?

This was on the main instance. I noticed the issue first when attempting to leave the development server cause I wasn't really doing much in there. That was on my desktop. The attempt shown with the screenshots was done on my laptop, also on the same build version listed above. The only thing I've been messing around with prior to the attempt is css theming. The only thing I can think of that might be causing an issue is my connection to a VPN. I'll try disconnecting from it and repeating the process to see if that does anything. I also tried running sudo fluxer --no-sandbox and still wasn't able to delete the messages while attempting to leave a server.

I wouldn't expect your VPN-ness to have any bearing on this issue. I'm also always on VPN. I also wouldn't expect running the app as sudo to do you any good, since your local admin perms won't have any effect on what happens on fluxer's servers. This is very weird, I wonder if anyone else can figure out how to reproduce this issue.
