dropdown menus remains opened after main modal closes

Reproduction steps

  1. open a modal that has a drop down
  2. open the dropdown
  3. press ESC to close the modal

Expected behaviour

the modal and the dropdown both closes

Actual behaviour

the modal closes first, then after a noticible delay, the dropdown closes
