Naming a channel after a user ID makes it render as that user's name instead of the real name

(#742) Bug Awaiting confirmation channels ui

Summary

The new issue for #425 since it got closed due to v2. Naming a channel a user ID like "1473229884793090118" will log in the audit log, but the client thinks that it should resolve this ID to a user. The same happens with roles and potentially other things. This happens because the client will check if something "looks like" a snowflake and if it does, try to resolve it, without taking the context of the field into consideration.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a channel (name it whatever you want). You can also use an existing channel.
  2. Copy your user ID.
  3. Make the channel name be the user ID.
  4. Look at the audit log. It is logged as described above.

Environment

Canary Desktop 2026.602.31138, Web 2026.605.11941, Linux 7.1.2-arch3-1 (x64), Electron 41.2.2, Chrome 146.0.7680.188, Node 24.14.1, Locale en-US Also has the same behavior on stable: stable build 508 (3250c73), 2026-06-06 21:26:08 UTC, Chrome 148.0.0.0, Linux (x86)

Summary

While looking at Fluxer source code to find out how it handles audit logs, I saw this code, which appears to be responsible for rendering "values". Since it only checks whether something "looks like" a snowflake, it will happily resolve snowflakes where they weren't supposed to be resolved.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a role
  2. Obtain your user id (as an example, you can do this with a channel ID too)
  3. Rename the role to the id (for example, "1473229884793090118")
  4. Look in the audit log. It should resolve the user ID to the display name in the title of the audit log entry.

Environment (optional)

stable build 87 (28da28c), 2026-03-11 14:24:05 UTC, Chrome 144.0.0.0, Linux (x86)

In this screenshot, the role "New Role" was renamed to my user id (1473229884793090118) which made the role name render as a user instead of staying as plain text: image

Status changed from Fixed to Awaiting confirmation
This was closed in a bulk cleanup before Fluxer V2 without being checked or fixed. It may work now, so it is waiting for someone to confirm whether the bug still happens.

I checked and it seems like the user ID can be the ID of any user, not just guild members. It will also "render colors", but this just renders it as text currently

Here's a channel ID as the role name: image
