Current problem
As a power user of messaging platforms like Discord (and now Fluxer), it's increasingly annoying to have a limit set on the number of people you can add as a friend. I've been at Discord's 1000 friend cap since a couple years ago, and have had to remove people who are less important than the people I talk with often in order to add more people. Fluxer, as of current, has the same limit
Proposed change
Instead of having a limit to how many friends one can have at any given moment, I propose a reasonable rate limit for the number of people someone can send a friend request to. I cannot think of a time I've added more than 25-50 people in a single day, so that could be a good starting point potentially.
This way, people who've naturally accumulated hundreds of friends over the years of using the platform, don't have to explicitly remove people in order to send/receive more friend requests.
Other considerations:
This can potentially reduce the reach of spammers, as it means they have a limited amount of people they can add as a friend in a single day.
I also don't believe there should be performance issues with an essentially uncapped limit, but it can be discussed under this post.
