Self-hosted instance theme color can incorrectly make other element colors unreadable

(#4064) Bug Closed: Fixed self-hosting ui

Reproduction steps

Set a self-hosted instance's theme color to be bright enough that it turns text elements color to black for readability, then observe how it incorrectly changes the color of other elements such as:
  • "GIF" indicator on gifs
  • play buttons on video media
  • self-applied reactions on messages

Expected behaviour

These elements should remain unchanged or be adjusted for better readability with chosen colors

Actual behaviour

These elements are almost impossible to see as they were intended

Status changed from Needs triage to Awaiting confirmation
Brand colour text, media overlays and own reactions stay readable for any instance colour (fluxerapp/fluxer#3504), in desktop canary 2026.1016.10903, web 2026.1016.10924 and self-hosted 2026.1016.10910
