Fluxer client emoji picker and short code autocomplete doesn't convert the shortcode to unicode when sending a message

(#397) Bug Won't fix api emoji

Summary

When sending a message if it contains a an emoji that has been inserted via the emoji picker or the emoji autocomplete, it would not get converted to a proper unicode emoji when sending the message. While not being a very big issue, it can be confusing for bots, as there is no way to tell if the user typed the shortcode intentionally while not meaning to send an emoji.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open a fluxer client ( Reproducable both on desktop client as well as the official https://web.fluxer.app/ client )
  2. Open developer tools to inspect the network requests
  3. Send a message with an emoji via the emoji selector or by auto completing it. ( Not copy and pasting a unicode emoji directly )
  4. Check the API call that sent the message to the server and look at the payload/body

@HellishBro This is not about what the client shows in debug mode but what it sends to the api. Try the reproduction steps i gave. Okay this is really weird i asked someone else to test it too and they also had the emoji be sent

@HellishBro Okay can you try to do it instead inside of fluxer with either using the emoji picker or auto completing it ( Do not copy and paste the emoji ). I think that is the only time when it happens. When you copy and paste the emoji directly it behaves as it should.

Okay i apologize, i didn't test enough to realize the scope of the issue is different. Regardless I believe it would make sense for fluxer to convert to a unicode emoji when using the emoji picker and the emoji autocomplete. While it can be easy to parse, it still does not make it easier to figure out the intent behind it. Whether the user sent an actual emoji, or just text. If that is not what fluxer intends to do then i will happily close the issue and be on my way. Sorry for any inconvenience
