Clicking "x New Messages" banner scrolls to the bottom instead of the top

Summary

When there are unread messages in a DM or a community chat, when I click on the banner I expect to be brought to the oldest (top) unread message, but instead it brings me to the bottom, effectively marking them as read even when I don't click that "Mark as Read" text. I assume this is a bug, as it does not do what I expect from similar chat apps with unread message banners.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open a direct message chat
  2. Scroll up past the most recent messages
  3. Mark a message as "unread" (alt+click on desktop)
  4. Scroll down slightly so that post is out of view, but not scrolled to the bottom
  5. Click on "x New Messages since yz" banner, and not the "mark as read" section on the right
The chat will scroll to the bottom, marking everything as read.

Environment (optional)

stable build 84 (356bd53), 2026-03-06 03:57:38 UTC, Electron 39.2.7, Windows 11 10.0.26200 (x64), desktop stable 0.0.8 This also happens on Waterfox, and Waterfox mobile.
