Observed behaviour
HEVC is not a selectable codec for screen sharing in the Flatpak version despite the sandbox environment containing the required codecs/encoders.
With an AMD RX 6700XT, all of the following works:
- HEVC media decode within Fluxer
- GPU accelerated and software rendering using the sandboxed-provided binary of FFmpeg
- VA-API:
flatpak run --command=ffmpeg app.fluxer.Fluxer -hwaccel vaapi -hwaccel_device /dev/dri/renderD128 -hwaccel_output_format vaapi -i input.mp4 -c:v hevc_vaapi output.mp4 - Vulkan:
flatpak run --command=ffmpeg app.fluxer.Fluxer -hwaccel vulkan -hwaccel_output_format vulkan -i input.mp4 -c:v hevc_vulkan output.mp4 - Software:
flatpak run --command=ffmpeg app.fluxer.Fluxer -i input.mp4 -c:v hevc output.mp4
- VA-API:
Reproduction steps
- Install Fluxer as a Flatpak (should be the same with the native repo and Flathub?)
- Go to fluxer://settings/user?tab=advanced_settings§ion=advanced-settings-media and enable
Allow H.265 (HEVC) for screen sharing - Open the
Screen share codecoption, and check whetherH.265 (HEVC)is greyed out - Open
Screen share encoder controlsand try this with all 3Encoder pathoptions - Check available encoders by running
flatpak run --command=ffmpeg app.fluxer.Fluxer -hide_banner -encoders | grep -i hevc - Encode any video file using the FFmpeg binary contained within the sandbox by running
flatpak run --command=ffmpeg app.fluxer.Fluxer <parameters> - Upload any HEVC video content to validate that it decodes properly
