New messages and notifications cause currently playing audio on the device to cut out

Other media on the phone (e.g. a youtube video in the background or music) is interrupted. It's not paused, it keeps playing, but the audio is cut out for those two seconds while the fluxer notification appears. Note: This happens both when the app is open in the foreground when receiving a new message (without a dedicated notification), as well as when it's in the background with a proper notification appearing.

Expected behaviour The notification (depending on the phones mute/sound state) plays it's notification sound layered on top of already playing on the device.
