What needs fixing?

Right now the repo is confusing and it's unclear what branch the desktop app and web app are on, is refactor the next branch, should we open PRs against the canary branch or refactor branch, or do we wait until the refactor is done to open PRs for issues, are issues that we see in the app even IN the refactor (like is that whats being shipped) or are they the main branch (which isnt default)?

from what I can tell, the refactor branch is broken at the moment. it hints to me its probably not the shipped branch, even though its default. they don't allow public contributions to refactor either. edit: typo

refactor isnt entirely broken. The server mostly works if you can figure out how to configure it. The desktop client in refactor can't be built. Because I am insane, I just spent like 6 hours trying to get it to build and couldn't and am now giving up.

Tbh I thought I tried this and it didn't work, but I will probably try this when I get up in the morning. Edit: also I'm on windows so that might be a factor.
