Message window does not stay still when reading past messages

Summary

Reading recent enough past messages when new message arrives, the wall of messages will jump back/forth half a page.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Log on via web
  2. Go some active channel
  3. Read past message, 1 or 2 pages behind the most recent
  4. Watch it jump

Environment (optional)

  • OS: Mac 15.7.2
  • Browser: Librewolf 145.0.2

Linux also affected: stable (5e220e5), 2026-02-15 18:44:11 UTC, Electron 39.2.7, Linux 6.17.7-ba25.fc43.x86_64 (x64), desktop stable 0.0.8
