Observed behaviour
The GIF saves as saved media. This is apparent if you go to the media tab instead of the GIFs tab and find the GIF you just saved there. This also has the side effect where if you go to GIFs > Favorites, it just puts you on the saved media tab.
Reproduction steps
- Go to Settings > Advanced > Chat > Save GIF favorites as saved media
- Make sure the setting is disabled
- Open the emoji menu
- Save any gif as a favorite by long-pressing it and selecting the option
