Make launch at login opt-in on desktop

(#1459) Feature Under consideration desktop

Current problem

What reason would there be to make Launch Fluxer at login opt-out? I see NONE. Besides nefarious ones... It should be OFF by default and opt-in.

Proposed change

Make Launch Fluxer at login OFF by default. Make Launch Fluxer at login opt-in.

Additional information

If you like to be nefarious and keep Launch Fluxer at login opt-out and ON by default, then I apologize for misunderstanding the intend and purpose of this project and ask you to ignore this request. Have a nice day! P.S. I searched existing discussions and further I also have done a search for similar discussions. Thus I checked BOTH checkboxes to be doubly sure. Have a doubly nice day!!

This a textbook case of Chesterton's fence: before tearing down a fence, find out why it was put up. This fence went up because plenty of people never figured out how to enable launch at login, kept missing their notifications, and let us know they weren't happy about it. So on-by-default is what causes the fewest headaches. It's also one click to turn off. Hanlon's razor says never attribute to malice what's adequately explained by stupidity. In this case it isn't even stupidity, unless listening to user feedback counts. Can't make everyone happy! That said, I'd be happy to implement a setup step on first launch where you choose this upfront. Have a triply nice day!

"This fence went up because plenty of people never figured out how to disable launch at login, kept being annoyed needing to close the window, and let us know they weren't happy about it. So off-by-default is what causes the fewest headaches. It's also one click to turn on." You do realize that the exact same argument could be employed in favor of the opposite? I am also not sure if I would compare opt-out with a fence. Opt-out means you force a certain setting on the user and it befalls to said user to free himself from it. Opt-in implies the user entered on their own volition... kinda like entering a fenced off area. But I found your attempt of selling opt-out as the one more adhering to user choice most entertaining. Just imagine on login all your steam games would start because all them have "Launch at login" on by default. That would be an experience. Not one I would enjoy, but still... an experience. All those moronic game publishers not having their games start on login, or maybe it's malice?

The comparrison with Steam is actually helpful, since the Steam client itself is by default set to auto start as well, with an opt-out option for those that don't want it. This is done for the same reason that Fluxer also has auto start enabled by default. (There is also a huge differnce between a game, something you usually don't keep open in the backround, and a chat platform, something you do usually keep open in the backround to get notifications.) Default behaviour should in most cases be set to what most people want. In this case it most likely is opt-out although that isn't certain unless Fluxer starts doing A/B-Testing (which i hope doesn't happen). That said, putting this option in the setup wizard for the desktop app wouldn't hurt imo.

"That said, I'd be happy to implement a setup step on first launch where you choose this upfront." Note how I've said this already, so that would solve your concerns. Let's not waste more precious time on Earth arguing against something that doesn't need arguing against, if you get a dialog when installing the app where it asks you if you want it to autostart or not, checked by default, but can be unchecked before you use the app, everyone's problems are solved!
