Keyboard shortcuts for quicker replying and editing

(#1423) Feature Shipped accessibility messaging

Current problem

image The current message-related shortcuts only work when focused on a message via tabbing (?), but shift+tab to select a message seems tedious. A quick way to reply to an arbitrary message on screen or edit any of ones own messages would be nice. For example some client modifications for discord implement systems just like this.

Proposed change

E.g.: CTRL+UP to reply to the latest message. Hitting the shortcut again moves up to reply to the next message. Can be repeated arbitrarily to quickly reply to any message in the recent chat history without back-tabbing or using the mouse. SHIFT+UP to edit the latest [editable] message. Hitting the shortcut again moves up to edit the next editable message. Can also be repeated.

I would also like to see keyboard shortcuts for navigation. I'd like to be able to scroll up and down through a conversation using a page-up and page-down. It's an accessibility issue for me.

I'm able to use page up and page down to scroll in a conversation! I've checked with others, and they can too. For clarity, you must not be focused within the message composer for these keys to work, because that's how the web platform works. Press somewhere on the chat background, and they should work?

It's not working for me. I'm on the Android app. That probably makes a difference.

The Android app does not have this built in currently. Please raise it with us over at Fluxer Labs (fluxer.gg/fluxer-labs) and we will look into it.
