Native Flutter client for desktop

(#1297) Feature Planned desktop mobile

Problem

Desktop currently runs on an Electron wrapper around the web app. The Flutter client already builds for every platform from one codebase.

Proposal

Officially support the Flutter client on desktop as an option next to the web client. Fixes and features then ship once instead of twice. Users also get a build without a bundled Chromium runtime.

Notes

I compiled the Flutter client for Linux, and chat and voice already work with close to no problems. Voice uses LiveKit on both clients, so it needs little change. The remaining work is desktop specific: screen sharing with system audio (xdg-desktop-portal), and UI polish such as a right-click menu, proper mouse support and a bit of layout polish. image

Status changed from Shipped to Planned
Reopened because staff said the Flutter client will be ported to desktop, which is planned work.
