Problem
A person might have the username like "Dragonslayer123" which makes it hard to tell who the person actually is when browsing the friend list (outside of a guild). If I, as a user could rename the person to their real name "Eric Ericsson" as an example, that would be a huge help. Currently you can add a note to the friend, but that requires a few steps to read, see image: imageProposed solution
I would like to propose "out of guilt nicknames" which does not affect nicknames in guilds.- Nicknames are only shown to the user who adds them, and not the user it was added to, they work like notes.
- Nicknames are shown instead of the username in direct messages tab.
- When inspecting/viewing a user profile, the username is shown below the nickname if a nickname has been set.
- A users given nickname does not affect that user in a guild, where the user themself is responsible for setting their own nickname, if they want to.
Notes (optional)
- There was a discussion about this on the Discord forum: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360030048331-Add-functionality-to-nickname-others.
- The word "guild" is what some people may reefer to as a "server".
- Since other's set this kind of nickname and it's only shown client side, and guild nicknames are set by the user themself and is available server side. Maybe another name other than "nickname" should be used to avoid confusion.
