Logarithmic Volume Controls

(#1127) Feature Under consideration voice

Problem

Currently, when adjusting volumes, it seems as though the volume is applied in a linear fashion. This is simple to code, but not accurate to how the human ear perceives volume. This results in volumes that should be rather quiet, like 1% volume, sounding very similar in volume to even 20 or 30% volume, making it hard to get precision when making things very quiet

Proposed solution

Volume adjustments should be logarithmic in nature, rather than linear. This will make fine grained volume adjustments more precise and intuitive. I've previously implemented a system like this for my own projects, using the methods suggested here: https://www.dr-lex.be/info-stuff/volumecontrols.html

i really really really really really need this personally. I have a friend at 1% and another at 200%, the one at 1 is way too loud and the one at 200% is way too quiet. Also a stream at 1% volume is still really loud

I've never really thought about the volume slider before, but now that this has been suggested, I can't stop thinking about this. That is an awesome feature that would definitely solve some of my voice chat shenanigans when it comes to balancing volume between lots of VC participants!
