Problem

this would be a great privacy boost for everyone and it will only be an option of course not fully end to end like matrix but this option being added can be great

This has been decided. Fluxer will add end-to-end encryption to personal notes, DMs and group DMs, and it will be required, not optional. It is built on MLS (Messaging Layer Security). At the same time, group DMs will grow to 250 members. That needs some backend changes so our real-time infrastructure scales to groups that size. Voice and video calls will also get required end-to-end encryption, using DAVE, the protocol Discord built for encrypted calls. That work is almost finished. It runs on Fluxer's new in-house SFU and call client, which replace LiveKit and WebRTC entirely. The original post and the comments below were written before this decision. They contain claims about our plans that are not accurate, so they are hidden and the thread is locked. Votes still count.
