Personally i like the discriminators because it keeps your username unique and protected from bad actors. When Discord removed the discriminators from their platform I started getting requests from shady people constantly. It was bad enough that I had to change my settings to avoid being constantly flooded with friend requests from what were no doubt shady actors.
It may not be popular with everyone, but it's something I view as a security feature to chase off bad actors.
It's also nice because while you can change your display name as often as you want, only one person (visionaries excluded I suppose) has that discriminator and can be tracked easier by moderators.
